The postpartum period is a time of significant change. Your body is recovering from pregnancy and birth while you are also adjusting emotionally, mentally, and physically to becoming a mother.

Yet for many women, ongoing follow-up care and monitoring during this period can be limited.

The Postpartum Check-In Program provides continued naturopathic support throughout the first two years postpartum, with regular assessments designed to monitor your physical and emotional health, address emerging concerns, and support your overall well-being as your body continues to recover and change.

There is a lot happening during the postpartum period, both within your body and in your everyday life. Having ongoing support provides an opportunity to monitor your recovery, discuss changes as they arise, and make adjustments to your care over time.

Additional postpartum monitoring may be particularly beneficial for women with:

  • ADHD
  • Neurodivergence
  • Eating disorders or body dysmorphia
  • PMDD
  • OCD
  • PCOS
  • Thyroid dysfunction
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Advanced maternal age

The program extends throughout the first two years postpartum, with quarterly check-ins and blood work at key stages of your recovery.

Initial Check-In: 6–12 Weeks Postpartum

Your first appointment focuses on assessing your physical and emotional recovery following pregnancy and birth.

This includes a comprehensive health assessment reviewing your medical history, lifestyle, emotional well-being, and any postpartum symptoms you may be experiencing, including fatigue and mood changes.

Initial blood work may assess:

  • Systemic hormone levels, including thyroid and cortisol
  • Nutritional deficiencies, including iron, vitamin D, and B12
  • Inflammatory markers, when needed

Based on your assessment and results, we can discuss nutritional guidance and supplementation and develop a personalized wellness plan focused on diet, exercise, and mental health.

Ongoing Quarterly Check-Ins

Postpartum recovery continues well beyond the first few weeks after birth. Quarterly appointments at approximately months 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, and 24 provide ongoing support as your health and needs change.

During these appointments, we can assess several areas of your postpartum health.

Physical Health

We monitor your recovery, physical symptoms, and overall health to identify changes or concerns as they arise.

Mental & Emotional Health

Regular check-ins provide an opportunity to evaluate your mood, anxiety levels, and mental well-being while also discussing the identity shift that can accompany becoming a mother.

Nutrition

Your nutritional needs may change throughout the postpartum period. Dietary recommendations can be reviewed and adjusted based on changes in your health and the results of your blood work.

Lifestyle

We can discuss exercise routines, sleep patterns, and stress management techniques as part of your ongoing postpartum wellness plan.

Family & Social Support

Your support system is also an important part of postpartum well-being. Appointments provide space to discuss challenges you may be experiencing and ways to build or strengthen your support network.

Follow-Up Blood Work

Approximately three months after your menstrual cycle returns, follow-up blood work can help monitor your hormonal balance, nutritional status, and overall health.

Testing may include similar markers to your initial postpartum blood work as well as reproductive hormones such as:

  • FSH
  • LH
  • DHEA
  • Total testosterone
  • Progesterone
  • Estrogen
  • Prolactin

This assessment can help monitor hormonal changes as your menstrual cycle returns, provide support through changes such as PMS, and guide adjustments to your wellness plan.

Postpartum care can extend beyond your individual appointments.

Additional support may include educational workshops addressing nutrition, mental health, identity changes, physical activity, and self-care during the postpartum period.

Peer support may also be available through in-person or online group sessions, along with information and referrals to additional healthcare resources such as lactation consultants, counsellors, and other healthcare providers.

Supporting You Through the Postpartum Transition

Recovery from pregnancy and birth doesn't happen all at once. Your physical health, emotional well-being, hormones, nutritional needs, and lifestyle can continue to change throughout the months that follow.

Regular postpartum assessments provide continued care during this transition, helping identify emerging health concerns and supporting your overall well-being as you adjust to motherhood.

You’re Not Alone

The postpartum period brings significant physical, emotional, and lifestyle changes. With so much happening at once, it can be difficult to know what’s part of recovery and when you may need additional support.

Regular postpartum check-ins provide a space to monitor your recovery, discuss how you’re feeling, and address concerns as they arise throughout the transition into motherhood.
